NACA was an organization that was the precursor to NASA. Basically, they did a ton of research on aerodynamics and flying, but the space-race shifted focus towards the stars in the late 50's. One of NACA's most prolific inventions was NACA Ducts. Think about the vents on the hood of the Nissan GT-R everybody tried to put on their Infinitis. Those are NACA Ducts. They're normally placed on car hoods to facilitate the movement of air through the engine bay while driving (or for looks alone). These ducts give some of the air coming through the front grille and bumper somewhere to go other than underneath the car. That allows more air into the front of the car and improves air flow under the hood.

Airplanes have NACA ducts everywhere. A NACA duct, also sometimes called a NACA scoop or NACA inlet, is a common form of low-drag air inlet design, originally developed by the U.S. National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), the precursor to NASA.
