In this video I take about dart weights in general and also take a look at the lightest darts used in the PDC and compare them to the heaviest darts used in the PDC. A bit of a different video from me but I hope you enjoy it!

When Preastley won his first World title in 1991 he used a copper tungsten dart that he had bought in the late 70s that weighted 26 grams. But as copper tungsten darts are softer that wear down so by the time he won his first title they where 13 grams. He later went up to 15 grams and then 17 grams for the last couple of years. Bdo player Richie Davis used a homemade 13, 5 gram dart. Im such a nerd.

I just hit my first 180 while listening to this video! It took me 10 months to finally get it, and I'm excited to keep throwing. I started throwing a 20g, then switched to 23, and am currently using 24g Red Dragon Pegasus darts. I'm finding that I like my darts on the heavier side with a longer stem. I need to give those Loxley 32g ones a try! Thanks for the content!

I've searched all over YouTube for a video like this, I'm glad worldwide covered it on point 👌

After playing 24 to 25g mostly, even just switching to the 22g Darts that my brother uses gives me all sorts of trouble. Feels like I have to put way more effort in the throw, so I really can't imagine throwing something as light as 18g. Very informative video, I especially liked you giving examples on who's throwing lighter darts and vice versa!

The biggest benefit of a lightweight dart is that it will correct itself quicker, in flight, when compared to a heavy dart. The reason is because it allows the flight to work more substantially and your darts will be straighter even with a poor release. The length plays a big factor as well. A long, heavy, setup will have the slowest correction speed. A short, light, dart will have the fastest correction speed.

Good video

Throwing light darts made my elbow hurt after while because of the amount of effort involved in just getting them to reach the board. I found it harder to group them as it was like throwing straws

I'm always impressed when people step to the side of the oche and reorient and still hit a 180. I feel like the quicker i throw all 3 the more accurate I am. Like the longer you wait to throw the next dart the more you lose the muscle memory of the last thrown dart and it's hard to replicate the exact same line and weight of the previous throw. Nice delayed 32g 180

Kinda interesting how player select their dart weight reference. I think players who use light or heavier dart are special. Thanks for a nice review always stay safe

I've gone down from 25g to 24g, 22g, then 16g, and finally tried the 12g Bunting darts and love them. Each time i stepped down the weight it felt more natural and the dart flew straighter. I also shortened the overall length as I got lighter.

Another interesting thing to consider is the throw of Bunting vs. Searl. Bunting is very snappy (like yours worldwide) vs. Searl from my memory is much more smooth/fluid and less snappy.

That in my opinion is the difference. Take Barney or the Bronze Adonis and give them heavy 28-30 gram darts, they would probably do better than a really snappy thrower like Roby or Bunting.

With that said, there are obviously exceptions to my theory, as you mentioned the Asp, he has a pretty snappy throw and uses what are considered heavy darts.

Great video! I prefer heavy darts all day! 25-28 grams for me please!

Much love and respect from Niagara Falls Canada 🇨🇦

Excellent review as always. If I had to pick one it would be the 12g stephen bunting. That said years ago I would have said the Ryan Searle

I would generally say, Someone that has a very gentle throw would benefit from a heavier dart because it will penetrate the board deeper and will bounce out less.

With light darts on worn boards you will have more wire bounce outs. Nice conversation about the topic.

I've been throwing 26g since I was 15, so 40 years. Always found that weight is perfect for me no matter how long I play. I once tried a friends 17g and I couldn't do anything with them, it was like throwing a cocktail stick with a flight on it.

I’ll be 79 soon and recently gone to a Red Dragon Firebolt, 30g. A step up from my Harrows Bombers, 27g. Previously threw 26g. I do like a heavy dart, never had a light set.

Throughout the late 70s and early 80s, I threw 26g. I have recently started playing again after a 30-odd year gap and I have gone up to 32g. I did try out some 14g in the dart shop and it was like throwing feathers. I just couldn't feel anything in my hand they were going all over the place.

Back when I was 17 and started throwing in league (1991), I was given a set of 24g darts (I still haven't found out the make/model, they're a little different from the norm, but LOVED THEM)... and the weight was just right. I threw lighter darts, and then heavier, but the 24g darts just did the trick. About 7-8 years ago, when I got back into darts, I've dropped down to 23g darts. I tried other weights but it always seemed like I had to put more muscle into lighter and heavier darts, which didn't help trying to keep accuracy. Like the gent says, let the dart do the work, not your muscles. Lighter darts will be easier to throw over the long haul, though I'm sure one can build up endurance with heavier darts if you keep throwing them more and more. I have 26g Piranha's and it don't take long to feel the extra weight, lol. *I had a buddy that didn't like any dart weight, too light... then he found some 36g harpoons. He loved them, lol. :D

I haven't played much in quite a few years now but, when I did play a lot, I used 25, 26g. I found those about the most natural feel for my throw. Now, for fun, I sometimes played games with those tiny Unicorn matchbox darts and, surprisingly found I could shoot ok with them.
