I remember the day I bought this. I walked in to pay my bill, and they had this showcased right up front. So I walked up to the desk, asked about the G1, and bought 2 of them that day. One for me, and one for my girlfriend at the time. I brought mine to work the next day to show it off, felt really cool. And then I went home and found out that my girlfriend spent the day learning how to root hers. Such an amazing phone for the time!

Did anyone else think that dot on Tim’s wall was a spec on your phones screen?! Lmao I was scratching at it for a hot second before realizing 😂😂😂😂

Great video. I was late to the party - used Windows phones (loved the BlackJack II) until 2011 and switched to Android (Samsung Infuse). It wasn't until the Note 2 that I started rooting my phones and taking full advantage of the freedom Android offered. Neat to see that first phone. Really nicely done.

Such a blast from the past!!! I remember when my husband and I both got this phone back in the summer of 2009! We literally switched to T-Mobile from Verizon JUST so we could get this phone. That's how badly we wanted it after my husband's niece came to visit and she had had just gotten it! I had the white one and my husband had the black one. This was the only Android phone that I ever actually loved (yes, I have been an iPhone user since 2010). I'm pretty sure that this was the best phone on the market at the time. I LOVED the flip out physical keyboard. I could text and email like a beast on that thing! We got our first Gmail accounts when we got these phones, which we still use to this very day. So much nostalgia!

I also loved moving the screen back and forth, open and closed... It was like a fidget gadget or something. Like, it just felt nice in your hands

My friend had this in 8th/9th grade, but I never realized then that this was the first Android.

Man haha the memories! I had this phone and I remember me and my buds at work were mind blown cuz it had all texts on one screen so u could see the whole convo instead of having an inbox and outbox etc etc ...and when it could do gps and street view we thought it was so high tech lol

Had this phone then upgraded to the Nexus One...then the Droid Incredible...back when HTC was a innovative beast.

Oh memories! I still remember that I was reluctant on moving away from my Blackberry. I ended us jumping ship to the Nexus S a year or so later. Was blown away with how fast the browser was compared to the Blackberry.

Great unboxing Tim. Cool to see how far Android devices have come. Funny there was no head phone jack lol.

I had the G1 in every color. Loved this device and wish there was a high-end physical keyboard phone still on the market.

I remember buying this phone! I loved it, I recall that the battery life was okay at the time. And aside from the basics, it was months before Android had any apps what so ever!

my first smartphone was a Motorola Backflip honestly one of my favorite androids (loved using the trackpad built into the back of the screen)
