For folks looking for a fast spreading and fast producing native plum, Chickasaw is definitely the one. I think the fruits taste great right off the tree, too.

I am starting to see formerly mowed parking lot margins turning into little native woods. A pharmacy near us has yaupon holly, wild muscadines and native persimmon trees along with live oak.
A nearby shopping center has a thick stand of native black cherries along one side and many birds gather in late spring. When I was here 10 years ago it was mowed grass.

Thanks for the identification friend! I've searched for these since I was introduced to them as a child, with my awesome/late and unconditional loving, 1/4 Cherokee Dad.. Standing near several of them now. If I'm alive and can walk in the spring/ I will be enjoying their taste and medicinal properties again... 🙏❤️✌️🇺🇲

These are great videos to help preserve the North American botanical heritage. I have a couple Chickasaw Plums in my Florida city lot (all native plants in my yard) and we make jelly out of them when they fruit.

Very cool video, Love the idea of using your islands for something good. Great species highlight too. Thank you

I planted about fifty this year. I will be potting some more next year. The red makes the best jam and yellow makes very good jelly.

Love what you did here, utilizing a space that would normally be useless fescue for native perrenials that provide food for people and animals, cover for animals, and cools your microclimate like mowed grass wouldnt. Not to mention they are kinda nicer to look at! Recently ive become very interested with the idea of cultivating various native perrenials like Chickasaw Plum, Persimmons, Golden Currant and "donating" them to various similar spots around my city

In important use for wild-type chickasaw plums is pollination of plum cultivars, especially Chickasaw cultivars and hybrids, many of which are nearly pollen sterile and require chickasaw plum for pollination.
