IIRC The Kirammen had a history with ranged weapons. Cassandra was READY to shoot and defend the house against any intruders when Vi and Cait snuck into Cait's room.

So, it makes sense that Caitlyn would also be interested or be given the opportunity to use a ranged weapon. This subsequently allowed her to be in contact with Grayson. Considering how she was mocked when she got reassigned as one of the night guards for being 'born rich'. Things just aligned for her to not want to hang out nor have much contact with the other rich kids but to more of the common folk like Jayce and other enforcers.
