This is a brief introduction to the origin of the Muslim polemic that 90 year old Joseph married 12 year old Mary, and why it's another example of a terrible argument.

Mary is very educated, the answer she gives the angel is actually a citation from Judges 11, 36. "Let it be done to me according to what you have said".

Thing is that Joseph didn’t have intercourse with Mary. She was a virgin when she had Jesus. Great video.

Some Muslims and Insane people used to say that Mary was 12 years while she gave birth to Jesus Christ.

Our Bible clearly shows the difference between a 12 years old girl and matured woman.

12 Years Old Female is called Little Girl in the Bible.

Mary is called as a Woman in the Bible.

39 At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, (A) 40 where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.(B) 42 In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, (C) and blessed is the child you will bear! 43 But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord(D) should come to me? 44 As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. 45 Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”

I hope Muslims doubt is clear.

The funniest thing is not only does the Qur’an affirm the virgin birth of Mary, but it’s also generally agreed on that in traditional Islam that Mary remained a virgin throughout her life, with the Quran's mention of Mary's purification “from the touch of men” (IE the dogma of the Perpetual Virginity of Mary). So even if 90 year old Joesph married Mary at 12 years old, this still isn’t comparable to Aisha, who Muhammad undoubtedly had sex with when he was 9.

In the Orthodox Church, tradition holds that Mary was dedicated as a young girl to the Temple. However, when she reached puberty she had to leave (menstruation was ceremonially unclean). Roman (and most other ancient) law meant that if a woman was neither the daughter of her living father or a wife, she was effectively legally a non-person. Thus, a marriage was arranged with Joseph, a widow, to provide this legal protection. As a matter of fact, it is taught that the marriage was never actually consummated, which is why he is typically referred to as "St. Joseph the Betrothed". And that's to say nothing of Mary's perpetual virginity, meaning Joseph would have never had sex with her at any age. A parallel to this can be seen in Esther.

St Luke's Gospel states that when Mary went to visit her cousin Elizabeth, who was also pregnant, Elizabeth "cried out with a loud voice, and said: Blessed art thou among WOMEN, and blessed is the fruit of why womb." (Lk. 1:42)
Elizabeth did NOT say "blessed art thou among girls" which she would have said if Mary was 12 years old.
