This scene destroyed me. Hopkins delivered such an incredible performance in this one.

I work in an care home. We experience this on a daily basis. Carers need more recognition and need to be paid more than minimum wage. It’s heartbreaking seeing people go through this. This lady thinks I’m her daughter and I play along with it just so that comforts her. She never has any visits. Once you’ve worked in care you see life differently.

My grandmother cried for her mummy during the late stages of her dementia. Until the end, we never forget our parents. Ever.

"I feel as if I'm losing my leaves"
"The branches and the wind and the rain"
"I don't know what's happening anymore"

I literally broke down when I saw the film yesterday. The way he calls for his mommy. I feel like the child we once were never leaves us.

This is acting in the purest sense, Anthony’s not acting he’s simply existing in the moment

He forgot who he was but he still remembered his mom which makes sense how we develop as babies. We learn our mom's face before we learn who we are. A great film and an incredible performance by Hopkins.

This scene just broke me. Even after the movie ended, I was still crying. It took me 15 minutes to compose myself.

We all miss Chadwick Boseman but Hopkins deserved the Oscar by a large margin

I come here when i want to cry. Sometimes we need to remember the fragility of the human.

Sir Anthony Hopkins has always been and will always be one of the best actors in Hollywood.

I thought this final scene was absolutely heartbreaking. When she is speaking to him at the end of this scene, it’s like his mother speaking to him when he was a baby. She even calls him ‘baby’ at one point. His progression towards death physically and his regression towards his infancy mentally is just so well done.

As a person whose family member is going through dementia this resonated with me on so many levels.

While not quite as obvious as him begging for his mommy, or asking who he is, the two most tragic lines in this scene both mean, strangely the same thing "the branches, in the wind, and the rain" spoken by Anthony after saying he is losing all his leaves. And spoken by the nurse at the very end "you're going to be feel better in a minute, I promise, " with the unspoken implication of; because you won't remember. He feels himself losing all his leaves to the storm of time, and she can do little but comfort him, as there's nothing more to be done...time comes for us all, sooner or later.

According to IMDB, during the filming of this scene the whole crew was in tears. The actress playing the nurse was crying, hence the dialogue but the camera remained on Hopkins. Brilliant performance.

Mr. Hopkins gave his all for this, and fully earned his second Oscar.

This ending catapulted The Father into my top 10 favorite films of all time. What a spectacular movie.

It's so terrible watching people slowly fade away, an adult can go from an independent individual to a sobbing young child who needs his mommy.

He won for this performance. The fact both the character and Actors name were Anthony...
