This old Mac was a PC too: The Apple Macintosh Performa 640CD Dos Compatible

While this Performa 640CD looks like every other cookie cutter 90s Mac it has a hidden secret of it's own: it packed an additional 486DX2 combined with a full PC chipset on top of the FPU-less 68lc040. Too bad it suffered from some bugs and whatnot, but at least it can run DOOM.

Quit calling it crummy run of the mill Macs. These were great computers and I still use mine today. Macs started it and PC's copied what Mac was doing. Today I use PC's and Mac but I will always love my old Macs

If you install PC Setup 2.x you can use the DOS Card with OS 8 and up, and install Windows 95 on the card too! You can find it on either Macintosh repository or Macintosh garden :) I have tried it on a DOS compatible 6100 and works seamless.

68040 at 33mhz is way faster the 486 dx2. risc/cisc. even the 133mhz pc processors were slower. depending on the workload. the real advantage was gaming. the sq root function of cisc was needed and without coprocessor mac couldnt compete in home pc.

the 7200 DOS has a Pentium 1 CPU when the Power Mac 6100/Performa 611x Series and LC/Performa/Quadra 630 640 DOS have a 486DX2

I would rather use my Pentium 133 PC for serious DOS gaming than the Macintosh DOS card, more compatible, and more expandable. The Mac DOS Card is also really unstable, mine locks up a ton and is slower than a turtle, it has poor compatibility with DOS games/programs, EMM386 doesn't work, it's a travesty, i'm removing it from my Power Mac 6100/66 DOS compatible. it also ran hot too.
