You Know What To Do- The Beatles (Guitar Cover)

This is the second song George Harrison ever wrote, after Don't Bother Me. It never made it onto an album because Paul, John, and George Martin detested it and deemed it unworthy of release. But a demo was recorded by the Beatles on June 3rd, 1964 for the Hard Day's Night album

The demo was released eventually in 1995 on the Anthology 1 compilation. It featured George on guitar and vocals, Paul on Hofner Bass, and John on tambourine

George most likely used his 1963 Gretch 6122 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman guitar into a Vox AC-50 amp. It has a dark sound, which means George either used his neck pickup or the mud-switch that darkens the tone. You have to remember that old Gretsches did not have a tone knob, only the pickup selector and mud-switch!

I'm using an original 1967 Gretsch Chet Atkins Country Gentleman guitar into a Vox AC-30C2x. I'm on the neck pickup and I darkened the amp quite a bit. I did not engage the mud switch

At 0:44 George made a mistake, going from B minor to D augmented too early, so he stops

Let me know what you think of my cover! Is the song any good, or was the rest of the group right to keep it off of any release?

If only John and Paul had helped George, this could’ve been a great song.

I love when you do rarities. You nailed the tone, like stupid accurate. Well done!

It's a charming song. I prefer it to at least a few of the songs on Hard Day's Night and Beatles for Sale. I could see George getting discouraged when his one contribution got rejected for...what..I'll Cry Instead?

Wow! Literally hearts in my eyes. Especially with the pause at 0:44 I'd always heard it occasionally and wondered what the little blip of a pause was. A masterful recreation once again!

Great cover! It's a shame the boys never developed it more. I would have preferred it close Beatles for Sale instead of "Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby".

Pity they never officially cut this! It had a ton of potential.

I love this song. Supposedly everyone in the band hated including George and it stopped him from writing songs for a couple years. It’s got a pop punk Buzzcocks feel to it. George is my favorite Beatle but I think they marginalized him for most of the Beatles career

Love those George "naughty" chords😊. Always wondered what this song could have been if they fleshed it out, maybe slowed it down and gave it more of a backbeat.

some years back i was gonna do a GEORGE H. tribute gig that would include both BEATLES and solo and though i eventually decided it was too much work to do it right we actually did rehearse a full band arrangement of this tune.

I think this tune needed some cowbell and a guitar solo imo but the melody of the song is good, George always liked to have a nice melody.

Song probably gave inspiration for that d chord bass notes on What Is Life, so the song was maybe useful.

I like the bride at 0:43 but for the rest I understand why it was dropped.

Apple Jam really did a good job with this song. I honestly have never cared for half of George’s Beatles material, but I think this was head and shoulders over that 50% I don’t care for.

According to Wikipedia, this song has been voted *_the worst_* in the entire Beatles canon. Personally, I think it rocks along quite nicely...it's certainly not bad for a second ever song...
