When I a kid, we lived for a couple of years (around 1974-76) in North Eastern Nigeria, in a town called Mubi.
It had previously been part of Deutches Kamerun (German Cameroon) prior to 1919.
Even in the mid-70s you could still commonly find Deutches Reich coins being traded and sold in the local market! 🙂

Fun fact: the german garrison in East africa held out for the entire war, and only surrendered when they discovered that Germany had surrendered two weeks after the ceasefire

We also had a small settlement in China, where today China’s largest brewery is located, and in Oceania (Samoa).

I worked with a fella from Namibia at Disney. He spoke perfect German. Very happy guy . Learned a bit of German from him. I went on to get a book and c.d. to further the language!😊😊

It would be cool to know why german colonisation of Africa had a influence in Africa

I think the only lasting impact Germany had on Africa is the fact that there is an active politician in Namibia right now called Adolf Hitler Uunona.

By the way, his parents (and himself until not long ago) had no idea who they were naming their son after. When he found out, he declared that he does not intend to conquer the world.

Honestly the Germans took a attitude of relative boredom to their colonies and didn't pay them much mind. This was mostly due to them seeing colonies as a waste of money.

German colonies: You have freed us!

Britain and france: Oh, I wouldn't say "freed" more like "under new management"

The fighting in Africa during WW1, though on a immensely smaller scale than the war in Europe, is none the less a fascinating aspect of the war.

Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck, Löwe von Afrika. He and his small number of Askari soldiers tied up hundreds of thousands of Entente troops in Africa, never defeated in the field and only surrendering several weeks after the armistice.

Also when he came calling he told Hitler to fuck off, only “not so politely as that” according to someone who was there.
