As an American born child raised by an English Dad. I was told almost every single day, growing up that "Good manners will take you to the palace, rich or poor" My Dad was right! There hasn't been a day in my life when that saying hasn't served me well. The Queen knew when someone hadn't been raised with proper manners and she had respect for those that showed it to others.
