Why iOS isn't called iPhoneOS

I'm the only person asking the question: why isn't iOS called iPhoneOS?

iOS 15 was the last version that was available on the ipod touch 7 so iOS name made still sense before 2021

I recall it was originally called “iPhoneOS” back with version 1-3, but starting with version 4, the fans expected “iPhoneOS 4.0” but instead, they got “iOS 4.0”

I don’t think they would want to make the OS name of their most popular product changed as to confuse millions of people into thinking iPhoneOS 19 would be a different kind of OS than iOS 18

Because of all the things apple should put any time, energy, or money into, changing the name of one of their legacy operating systems without dramatically changing it is not something they need to do lol. Chances are they could do it if they wanted to, but that’s why I feel like you’re the only one wondering. They changed iPadOS from iOS dramatically years ago, which is when they expanded it to iPadOS
They changed the look and feel of Mac OS X a long time ago, which made them drop the X. So unless they do a completely new design change of iPhone and its operating system, they probably won’t do that. Their design languages has been relatively the same throughout the years after the phone 4
