Should you play Final Fantasy XIV in 2023?

I rarely stray away from Souls content in my videos but decided to take a closer look at an MMORPG that I have recently had the chance to try for the first time - Final Fantasy XIV Online. FF14 is one of the biggest MMOs on the market at this time but with the new year starting soon, is it worth playing in 2023 and should YOU play it? In order to answer this question, I explore several of the game's aspects from story and gameplay, to the new player experience. Let me know how you decided!

You know what's funny is while new players ask for more involved story early on, the veterans asks for much slower story for the new arc after going through final expansion. Trust me, you will wish for a slower start too after what you will go through in the story later on. It has been a year since the launch of Endwalker. I'm still emotionally compromised and drained.

2023 will be a slow year for FFXIV, their next exp will come in 2024 (instead of summer 2023 which would be the normal schedule since pandemic delayed everything up) so we will be fed content patches every 3 1/2 - 4 months.

it is the perfect opportunity to get into the game tho, since it will be a while before significant changes, so if you never tried it, do so now, it is the best final fantasy over there and if you dont like the mmo aspect it allows for a easy solo play(for the great story) plus you can easily get over 120hs of game just from the trial, should be enough to make a decision if youre paying or not.

I plan on playing a little every patch for the new content, will keep my sub active to support the game and will enjoy other games between the content (currently trying FFXI, but next year is so full of games like hogwarts, diablo, ffxvi, baldurs gate, startfield, ff7r part 2, etc, etc that the slow year for 14 shouldnt be much of a problem)

I'm very much interested to see an update in some weeks to check if you then really enjoy the game withouth hesitation. :) It's a bit sad that you have to play until the last bit of "A Realm Reborn" until combat and the story gets really exciting. But then it will turn into such a fun and profound experience. One of the best games I have ever played.

I will tell new players when the game starts getting good and you should start paying attention to the story.
It's after you beat the titan primal, right after the scions are killed and captured.
I guess paying attention to the ifrit and the grand company quest is important to

If you are interested in playing FF XIV, I have one tip for you... Don't force it.

I have played FF XIV for almost 3 years now (2 and a half years for the free trial). In the 2 years of playing until the end of the free trial I have allowed myself to take a break from this game.

What you have heard is true ARR (A realm reborn) is boring and tedious but it builds the world and the bonds of the characters around you. I can even say that the gameplay in this part is also boring as there are only a few combat skills you need to press over and over again. With that said, I am sure that you will have to stop playing for a while, and that's fine. Getting to the end game content is not a race, just take your time. Play other games if you are not enjoying FF XIV and then get back to it after some time.

What I can tell you is this, in the latter parts of the game and in the expansion you will love the combat as there are more buttons to press ( I had to press so many keys that my hand strated cramping, so I switched to the controller), the story as it will give you tears, and the latter content which is FUN (I literally study in this game and that becomes the fun part, trust me you'll get this when you reach that point).

I did not even dive into the PvP aspect (available when you go out of free trial and subscribe) which I REALLY REALLY LOVE. PvP BECAME MY FAVORITE CONTENT.

So... Just try to get through ARR and you will be rewarded with one of the best MMO. At this point, I can confidently say that the 15 USD per month is way worth it.
