How to make a wooden Spoon and Spatula | Made from a Log

In this episode, I'm making some wooden utensils for the kitchen. I started with an Aspen Log that I split down a year ago so they could dry out. I usedg a carving burr in my Dremel to carve the bowl of the spoon. I used Pure Tung Oil as the finish. Its food safe when cured and easily applied and reapplied. I'm really happy with the wooden spoon and spatula. These will work great in the kitchen and is a super fun project.

Great job. One of those projects I have always said I would try and never get round to doing.

I like the way you made these.
I bought a spoon carving set. Found a peice of scrap pine 9 hours later I had a basic spoon shape, but nothing that could really be usable.
I thought about finishing it with power tools, but it's found a home on my wall of shame, lol.
I haven't stopped trying, now where too find Aspen wood in California.
Blessings to you and your family

Growing up my mom made scrambled eggs in the spaghetti and topped it with parmesan cheese. Cheap, filling and delicious.

You should definitely pick up a hook knife for spoon's bowl! Really easy to use. Also, makes shavings, not dust! Sharpening it is pretty simple too - you do it on the opposite side of the bevel so you don't end up changing the bevel shape! Okay rant over great vid

I loved the dove background noise.

I don't know if you saw this, but YouTube is no longer sending email notifications to subscribers, which is a shame, because I usually went straight to your videos when notified.

I wonder if tung oil is safe for food contact. Usually wooden cutting boards are sealed with mineral oil that is available at drug stores.

It's funny how I can make guitars all day, but I absolutely suck at making a spoon.

Hope it is food grade. The tung oil i have is not.

That part of the spoon is called the bowl.
