Also, fun fact: blue was considered a girl's colour until around World War II. Given this movie was made in the 50s, I assume there would have been a lot of people who held onto the old "blue = girly" tradition, while others adopted the new "pink = girly", and that's probably how this argument broke out between the filmmakers.
