If weak second serve can go for it othervise deep with toospin is the key to break them, keep the ball in play

You hit the key point - “deep”. A high short ball straight down the middle is going to get killed by a serve and volley player.

I've mostly done this my whole life and I ran into a serve and volley player yesterday and it was pretty rough. I wasn't sure if I should stick to my guns and just try to keep the ball lower but still center of the court or if I should start aiming more crosscourt or down the line to avoid him. I mean, I'm increasing the difficulty of my own shot but if I make it it's a winner...so is that acceptable risk? I tried both out during the match and I still don't have an opinion.
