Great to see all the advancements made, enabling to customise the troubleshooting and monitoring capabilities. Something DBA's can sink their teeth into.
That said, the existing "Azure SQL Analytics (preview)" is an out-of-the-box tool that has proven very useful with very little effort. So I do hope that it continues as well.

At first glance, this seems like a nice solution, but I have a question regarding the Ubuntu VM I need to create in order to setup the monitoring.
It would have been nice if the monitoring agent could be made available in some other way, because if I (as a DBA) want to setup the SQL monitor, I now have to deal with managing and maintaining a Linux operation system for which I do not have sufficient knowledge/experience and for which my server management team is unwilling to provide any support. I would prefer to see a solution which could take away the hassle of managing the Ubuntu OS.

Or am I seeing this wrong and does the Ubuntu not requires any maintenance? (upgrades/patches, ...)

looking forward to some feedback

16 minutes of marketing talk and all the guy said about what is it and why we need it was "new way of collecting data".
What data?
SQL Performance data?
Why do I need it?
Show us the sample data that you are collecting.
Guys, hire Brent Ozar. He will explain everything in plain English.
