The Government's Budget Breakdown and Why We Need to Rethink War Spending

preview_player

In 2023, 57% of the U.S. federal budget went to just three sectors: health insurance, Social Security, and defense. With so much money allocated to these areas, it's time to question how much we should continue funding wars at the cost of essential programs.

Social security has already been paid. It should NEVER be up for discussion for budget cuts. All else is fair game as they say.

Social security americans pay into. Unfortunately the goverment borrows that $$$ which is depleting it. That money should be in escroll period. NOT TOUCHED!!!

The government is NOT spending 24% of its money on YOUR health care. That money goes to health insurance companies. Since there’s nice price controls imposed health insurance or doctors, they can charge literally any price, you and I have to pay it, then the rest of the cost is paid by our insurance plan. Insurance company sends the bill to the government, who uses Your tax dollars to pay the medical industry. We pay into the through our jobs for years, then still have to pay a big deductible if we need the insurance.

US health insurance is the biggest scandal. It’s worse than the industrial military complex.

In 2021, the U.S. spent $12, 914 per capita on healthcare, far exceeding the next highest country, Germany, which spent $7, 383. Other countries, like the UK, Australia, and Canada, spent even less per capita, with expenditures ranging from $4, 000 to $6, 000. Despite this, the U.S. does not achieve better outcomes in key metrics such as life expectancy, maternal mortality, or disease burden.

Defense should be 7%, my old boss was in the service. He told me at the end if the year they shoot out the remaining of the artillery for two weeks straight jst so the US can give them the same allowance. Tell me that's not wasteful spending

Health care for who? "Economic security programs." What does that mean? Benefits for federal employees? And defense? Why so high at 13%? It should be no larger than 3% because who is attacking the United States? We have two huge oceans on either side, and Canada is not going to attack us. That leaves the border of Mexico. An attact from there is highly unlikely. And so, again. Why is the military budget so high?

As long as the Trump admin stays away from Social Security and healthcare, they’ll be fine, but if they cut those people are gonna be pissed as they should be

Social Security is 0%. It does not come out of the government’s budget. Look up the old Ronald Reagan video that explains it. Social Security is prepaid by the American taxpayer out of their wages. None of it comes out of the government’s money.

I paid into SSI for 50 years and now I'm retired and only get 1.076k a month.
20 years ago I was promised I'd get 3.2k.
Where's my retirement?

Leave the poor alone. I believed he was going to cut taxes to social security benefits. I hear that's true but they should not rob the poor whatsoever.

24% to health insurance for whom? Government employees?

My understanding is that 21% social security is the interest that our government is paying for all the loans it has taken out over 60 years

I'm old enough to remember that it 1980 HEW (HUD today) was 1/2 of defense. Today, it's slightly less than twice defense, yet everything HUD does is worse. I'd say start by saving a trillion out of HUD.
