Hot take: The Prince of Egypt is an animated movie but is my favorite of all time. Nothing has ever beat it for me. Stellar animation, the whole movie looks like a moving painting. Amazing retelling of the exodus story of Moses. Amazing characters, amazing soundtrack from Hanz Zimmer. I wish animation studios still made movies like this.

So the new Snow White movie didn’t make Ben’s list?

4. Goodfellas
5. Forrest Gump
6. The Shining
7. The Truman Show

I’m amazed “12 Angry Men” (1957) didn’t make the list for a lawyer

That being said, I’d put out there:
“Dr Strangelove”
“The Terminator”
“It’s a Wonderful Life”
“A Few Good Men”
“The Green Mile”
“Mr. Jones”
“Ghosts of Mississippi”

1. Star Wars: The Last Jedi
2. Snow White 2025
3. Emilia Perez
4. Indiana Jones 5
5. The Room

There were too many good movies in this comments section; I had to spice it up a bit.

My Top 10 favorite films:
1. Jaws
2. Amadeus
3. Empire Strikes Back
4. LOTR
5. Princess Bride
6. Schindler's List
7. Tombstone
8. Shawshank Redemption
9. The Music Man
10. Jurassic Park

Honorable mention for The Sound of Music (it should be on this list honestly, but I can't bump any of the others out, lol)

I'm not saying all of these are necessarily the best movies ever made (although Amadeus should be in that discussion FOR SURE) but these are the movies I've watched more times than any other movie and/or have significantly changed my perspective on movies.

Thank you for including The Best Years of Our Lives! I watched it for the first time recently, and I was so overwhelmed by it that I was compelled to watched it a second time immediately. Something very beautiful and deep and affirming is in all of its fabric.

Das Boot might be the best war movie ever made. The production, the score, the bone-chilling atmosphere of the daily life of submariners. From rotting food and soul crushing boredom to sanity consuming panic as the ash can splashes and ASDIC pings penetrate the deafening silence of the deep. Truly a phenominal piece of cinema.

Just throwing this out there since it’s in my top 10 and not many others:

Whiplash.

The attention to detail, the music, the character development, it’s all impeccable.

Chariots of Fire. I fell asleep to it in the theater as a kid. Then, in my early 20's, I borrowed it from the library. When I finished watching it, I rewound it and immediately watched it again. Powerful!

Ben,

Great list dude! One thing I always loved about the crew of the Daily Wire, in particular you and Andrew Klavan, is that you two are genuine film buffs and guros. I remember when the legendary Kirk Douglas died you touted Ace in the Hole as his best work and from that moment I was hooked on the whole film nerd aspect of your show.

If I have to narrow this down to five... Here are mine:

Red River (1948, Howard Hawks)
Taxi Driver (1976, Scorsese)
Aguirre the Wrath of God (1972, Herzog)
Barry Lyndon (1975, Kubrick)
In a Lonely Place (1950, Ray)

Not exactly a happy top five, but still... all great and unique.

Love your commentary on all these films. You must be an "old soul" because so many of these are WAY before your time (mine too)... but I love that you are open and intellectual enough to go back to see so many classics. That being said, my favorites are:
1) Broadcast News (probably never be able to make today)
2) Best Friends
3) Up
4) El Secreto en sus Otros
5) Point Break (okay... maybe not the best movie in the world but one that I enjoyed the heck out of... fun, exciting, cinematic)

dee-dees.
