Athena IOOC 2022 | Sitia Crete

The 7th edition of Athena International Olive Oil Competition was successfully organized in Sitia, from 7 to 9 of April, 2022. Our judges enjoyed the tasting evaluation process and have been very impressed by the olive oils of the region of Lasithi, as well as its unique landscapes, the imposing centenarian olive trees and the archaeological sites visited during the side-events program.
The walk-around tasting of local olive oils in the presence of their producers, held the day before the starting date of the competition, served as an ideal occasion to give an in-depth idea of the unique olive oils produced in the region.
Highlights of the 7th edition of ATHENA IOOC was the visit and guided tour of the Toplou 15th century Monastery, followed by a special monastic lunch in the monastery’s dinning room, and on top of all, the adoption ceremony of an ancient olive tree by ATHENA IOOC judging commitee in Pefki.
