Language Families with Disney | 63 languages!

My biggest project in a while. As a linguistics student with a BA degree I felt like I was qualified to do this ;) Still I had to read a lot of Wikipedia because sadly, I do not know a lot about language families in Asia or Africa. But I think this is a nice little info package for people who want to know more.

This video includes all language families that have dubbed Disney movies or are included in one. Some languages that had only dubbed one movie and no songs weren't included but were mentioned in their respective families.

As usual, I own nothing.

This video is genius! As, a geography major, languages have always been so incredible to me, as a part of our culture and mere existence as humans. I still can't wrap my head around the idea that people could come up with so many different and unique ways of speaking, each with their own rules, pronunciation and cultural ties, truly fascinating! It's also so interesting to see how some language families are so astonishingly big, like the Indo-European languages, but then you have languages like Japanese and Korean, that are pretty much on their own (don't even get me started on Basque haha). And nice touch using songs from movies that take place in the same location where the respective language you were talking about at the time originated :)

That was such an amazing video. It shows the beautiful atmosphere that the languages' variety brings to us. I'm surprised how much big the Indo-European family is. I mean, I didn't know Spanish was somehow "related" to Hindi xD.
Such a nice idea, it was real nice to learn about this new families

I am shocked, I loved your video so much, the editing is beautiful, the information is beautiful, I learned new things and it is always nice to listen to Disney songs in other languages.
This is definitely going to be one of my favorite videos on Youtube <3.

To me German and Dutch sound alot like when I hear native people speak it. As a english speaker ( from the UK) I had to take speaking classes as child ( I had a very bad stutter ) and my teacher was from the US and due to this I have a small american accent now ( it only comes out when I am nervous or angry)

I speak Swahili myself, being from Kenya 🇰🇪, good representation of the language in Disney

French doesn’t really have « dialects » it’s more like accents actually. We all understand each other in France. I think Canadian French is very different from regular French but the Canadian French dubs are made with a European accent as the Quebec accent is considered as « not official ».

The only mistake I found was that you listed a few dialects of Croatian and Slovene, but besides that, this was a beautiful and very creative video, as always.

I'm here because I watched a fan-made video of different austronesian languages one lining a verse, and I saw the Chamorro language in it and it made me wonder: what the hell is Chamorro

Does Finland have any government authority responsible for film censorship? Just curious.

Such an interesting video! Languages can be both wonderful and a great headache! In a good way, always. It is fascinating the fact that if you learn a language such as German or Russian or French, how many other languages are you able to understand, even a bit.
Yes, the Greek language has many dialects, sometimes it's difficult to understand my own people, not to mention my own family. :)

Very impressive video, done with a solid knowledge on the subject! I'm very interested in language and linguistics too and very fascinated with the way languages are related and similar to each other so this video is perfect for me :)

I don’t know why YouTube initially blocked from writing comment here but never mind.

Actually this reminds me why I am kind of immersed myself in the sea of linguistic. I remembered when Let It Go in 25 Languages became viral on the Internet. I wondered why Norwegian ‘La den gå’ was similar to English ‘Let it go’. Because of some reading about language families, well here I am now. Sometimes it fascinates me that somehow Hindi, Persian and English are related to each other. Well to be honest, I planned to further my studies in linguistic and well, life happens :’D.

Because Modern Standard Malay and Indonesian are from the same root of Johor-Riau Malay, I like to make the mix of both of them considering that you will get a new version of lyrics if you mix them up.

Thanks for doing this. A really interesting concept indeed ☺️

Hmmh got a real nostagia hit from this video somehow. Kinda reminded me how disney multilanguage videos got me so interested in languages around 10 years ago. I was just a kid back then and now I'm a grown-up living on my own... Time flies
