I just started carving with my palm router. I have experimented with using other color spray paint for the letters and it really makes the sign look very custom. I have sold 6 small carvings on pedestals. I built a deck and cut off 2x8x10 end pieces and I used the router to carve these. I have the no slide shelving pad from dollar store so no clamping needed. The advantage to the palm router is more control for small carving.

Wow, when you put on the stain it really looked great. Funny how you used a hand saw then a power saw. Keep em coming.

I put on a coat of clear poly before painting. That keeps the paint from wicking into the wood on the edgee of the letters and on the face. Less planing is also needed. This is more important when you have an open grain or porous wood.

That was a lot of fun to use the router in a more artistic fashion. I see if I do much more of sign making in the future it would be nice to have a vacuum set up to catch the mess. Anyone local need a custom sign and have an idea to challenge me and thus improving my skills?
