I use to be a lawyer, than I was a teacher... now I stack shelves in a supermarket and I’m the happiest

This is exactly why I quit medical school and became a plumber. My family thought I was crazy and so did most of my "friends" at the time. But I'm happy, I don't live in debt, I'm free to have a social life and live. I work to live now, instead of living to work.

Makes sense, humans were not designed to sit in an office motionless for 10 hrs 5-6 days a week.

I worked in finance for 15 years and quit to clean trains - at night and on my own. Best decision ever. Zero stress, zero drama

I have been fighting my soul for 13 years working a corporate job... I never wanted to get into it. I never wanted to do a master's in marketing. I just followed the herd.
13 years later 39 years old now, I found myself crying in the bathroom trying to finish a presentation wondering how I got to this point over and over again... I am responsible for my anxiety and depression. I murdered my soul.

Your video saved me. Articulated in 10 minutes what I was going through for 13 years. I still don't have the courage to stop... Especially with bloody COVID around now...
But I have to, I just know I have to. I have to go blue collar and start all over again.

I too was toying with the idea of landscaping or study to become an electrian.

I want to work with my hands fewer people and less deadlines!

You are a beautiful person and reminded me that we are all not cut from the same cloth... Something I knew in college but got lost in the noise of the world.

I'm going to do it... I have to, for the sake of my mental health.

My husband went from being in corporate finance for 25 years to a pool man. He has never been happier.

I'm a contractor. Talked with a painter who used to be a therapist. Said he was tired of other people's problems. Changed my outlook on the trades.

I really want to just build a small self sufficient farm/homestead and have a wife and kids and friends with me.

I hated with a passion being an administrative assistant or having to sell people stuff. I was good at it but everything about it was agonizing. My best job was the post office as a mail handler. The hours were crazy and at times the labor was brutal but i was so active and i loved it. My mother said i had the mind of a poor person and that i was accepting my life as a pack mule. I ended up quitting and going back into something i hated and now im miserable again. Sometimes it's the people closest to you that make you obsessed with money and status.

I wish high schools didn't push the college route so hard and encouraged students to check out all their options, like trade schools for example. A lot of people I've met went to college with no idea what they were in for and how much debt they'd accumulate, only to end up in a job that didn't make them happy... One of my friends from university never pursued a career with her biology degree. She's super happy running an independent coffee shop and living more simply

I wouldn’t say that your 4 years were wasted. It’s like Jim Carey said “I wish everyone could become rich and famous so they’d see it wasn’t the answer to anything.” Now that you’ve tried the other path, you can appreciate the path you’ve chosen rather than wondering what might have been.

I am a nurse and the sickest people I meet are the ones that worked in a corporate job, the ones with the fewest problems that make it the longest without intervention are the once that had some type of labor job.

I’m a teacher but I quickly realised it’s not “the job” for me. I started doing labour work & I was the happiest. Less stress, less drama, less work at home... the days flew by very fast...
Unfortunately I got fired last year b/c of covid. I’m back to teaching again (for 4 months) & I’m already stressed out & I cry every morning on my way to school. Can’t wait to find another job soon... I’m counting down the days!

I'm kind of on the same path. Got my Master's degree, worked for 6 years in my field and was miserable every day. I cannot stand small talk and working in a cubicle is my worst nightmare. On top of that, I have never liked authority and being told what to do. I just started my own business because I decided I no longer want to be part of the corporate world and my happiness is through the roof right now. I am also making more money right now as well. So it is a win win.

We often struggle with prioritizing work and validation over quality of life.

Lol you should see some of the people that work in an office 50 hours per week.

Hearing my dad talk about how miserable his job makes him is so sad. He only stays and takes the stress because he had to take care of us. He’s retiring soon and is so excited about it. Do what makes you happy. We are brainwashed to think that only certain careers can make us happy.
