Love your channel it's alway so educational and pleasant (even when you're telling it like it is).

Thank you so much for this video. I have learned so much in preparing me for our first chickens this year. Still reading on the Gail Damerow books you suggested. Urban homesteader in the making. Bucket list getting shorter too. Hugs.

When I had chickens (before back surgery) I made a candler using a coffee can with the plastic lid. I stood an LED flash light up in the can (wrapped in a towel so it stood) then cut a square in the plastic lid for my egg to lay on. That was my candler and it worked.

Thank you Patara. This is the first video my hubby and I have seen where you've candled eggs. It was very well filled and we got the idea. We now know what to look for for "signs of alien life"...lol.

I’m so glad that you made this video. We have been candling our eggs since we have roosters. We now have fertilized eggs 😅 and we are so happy. We have 10 dozen eggs and they are not fertile and not selling for some reason on marketplace. I don’t know if we have them in the wrong category or what. But hopefully we will be breeding chickens and growing our flock. We are so happy with our beautiful chickens.

Good video. Thank you. Just for those who aren't experienced, hens can accidentally peck their own eggs when checking them so for  beginners be careful and protect the eggs from the hen.

I just candled some eggs and didn't know what I was looking at for 6 of them! I couldn't see anything! 6 looked great!

Patara, do you have to keep a broody with a clutch of eggs separated off from all of your other chickens, like in a separate enclosed area? Would the other chickens hurt the freshly hatched chicks?
