I understand that we cover our hair but how do we know or be sure that it means to cover every single hair? Yes long ago the woman covered their heads and Allah said bring the Khimar to the front and cover your bosoms but why would the woman be so strict without Gods command prior to getting told bring it to the front to cover yourselves, to cover each and every hair? Yes we see woman from centuries covering their heads but were never religiously covering every hair. So when Allah commanded us He didn't say cover it so nothing no hair be seen He said draw it over the front, didn't mention how it should be on the head. Again I'm sure women were not careful to hide every bit of hair back in the days, why would they? You see what I mean. I'm just trying to understand this, it's not clear to me. Though I've worn hijab all my life, I would like to know with true evidence. Jazakallah kher

We need to stop addressing the head cover as hijab. Hijab is compulsory for the body, the question is, is the head cover compulsory? And if the answer is yes, how much of the hair do you have to cover, because back in the days, head cover didn't always cover the entire hair, men and women both used to wear it, mainly for social and climate reasons.
