Kaun Banega Captain in Indian cricket is often almost as dramatic a story as Kaun banega Pradhan mantra.. which is why I thought that this is a good week to talk about whats become a major talking point in Indian cricket; is there an ongoing battle between Indian test captain Virat Kohli and the BCCI leadership led by Sourav Ganguly and BCCI secretary Jay Shah.

I think it was premature of Kohli to assume he will continue on as the ODI captain, during his public announcement while stepping down as T20 cap.
That was not taken well, I believe, by the BCCI - a parallel announcement.

That said Virat Kohli, for all his achievements, has the right to protest against the BCCI for not being clear. If that really is this case* .

That said, I think it is time for change. Rahul Dravid is an involved coach, he needs some authority and power, which wouldnt be easy under Virat's captaincy and more comfortable under Rohit's. Purely because of their nature and styles of leadership and personalities.

Also another factor might have been the need to maintain a certain status quo for the next two years when we shall be participating in a t20 and late odi world cup.

I think its time for us to start building the world's best support which doesnt require the captain to be the central figure. This style of organizational set up seems more rewards as well.
Take the case of Team Sky from cycling or the Australian Cricket. Rahul Dravid has the potential to do just that.

Although its not ideal the way this were handled in the transfer of power, I think good days are ahead. I know after a few days, this will all be history, and for an instant too dont doubt Virat's abilities. He will be back to the true batsmen and match winner he is.

Rohit Sharma will do what he's good at, being the opener and the cool header captain he has exhibited in the IPL. Its essential that these two men adjust to their new roles soon. Not much time left and he have yet to fill in many key positions in the team leading up to the WCs.

I have been following cricket since 1996 World cup. I have been many legendary world wide performers some legendary battles that actually stopped your heart beat for some of seconds. Now days that competition is missing. Cricket has became purely batters game than bowlers. But thing that still hasn't changed & it shouldn't be changed in my opinion that no matters how big a individual player he or she the borad is the final authority. Like no matters how good scholar student you are you institution is final authority. And a board has to strict.

Any ways I believes in difference of opinion in any sectors runs the administration properly and should be like this. No one has bigger than the institution. In virat vs bcci case all I can say both parties have some malfunctions like bcci had some poor communications virat has some bigger egoistic wishes. But that is quite understandable. I believe what ever happened in dressing has to stays in dressing room. Virat kohli has broken that rule and in pc he actually questions the Institution it self and very much tried to defame another as legendary as him. That's the end of discussion there. I urges BCCI take a strong action against some one who trying to be larger than game or the institution. Tech him a lesson like Australian borad did to Steve Smith. Don't fear the Trolling virat army they are quite irrelevant in this country now days. If virat kohli has a Trolling army BCCI also got support by half of knowledgeable fans who actually matters.

So he decided to continue as ODI and Test captain, and he decided to show the door to Kumble . Well this time the BCCI decided. Tit for Tat.

Excellent analysis, except I disagree that Virat's exit could have been honorable.

Terminations are never honorable. They are terse & business like, particularly for an egoistic person like Virat, who had self appointed himself as Captain of ODI & Test cricket.
Indian cricket was changed by Ganguly & Dhoni & not by Virat. Virat only destroyed careers of Yuvraj, Raina, Rayadu. He came close to destroying match winners like Rohit & Ashwin, while he played a half fit, out of form Pandya.

Ganguly changed the Indian cricket, not Dhoni not Virat.

Kohli was not removed by terse press release, instead he was told by board first then it was released to press.
Learn from Tendulkar . Game is bigger than anybody.

If India is defeated in test series in South Africa, King Virat should be stripped of his captaincy in tests immediately otherwise it will be very difficult for Rahul Dravid to control arrogant Virat

Virat had it coming. Bad form, no icc trophy and arrogance above all.

disgree with your perception and analysis.you keep saying he was told one day before.it was one day before test team was announced not one day team announced which was done later.ODI team was still not selected.also when you are selecting say a captain or supreme court chief justice its not feasible to call and tell and explain the reasons in public because it will be like showin him in poor light.the captain does not have any say in his selection he was still informed before official announcement which is good enough.its virat who is throwing attitude.he is no one to decide whether he will only captain ODI or not captain T20

Good analysis by Sardesai on the relationship between Virat Kohli and the BCCI
The culture of opacity in the BCCI has not changed much even with a cricketing legend at its helm.
But if you are with Jay Shah there's nothing much Ganguly can do.
I think Ganguly should step down. Focus on his academy if he has one, be a columnist and commentator .
Besides he has suffered a heart attack in the recent past. So this should be a good opportunity for Ganguly to step down.
His otherwise clean image will be tainted if he continues to associate with the members of the BCCI.
It is as opaque as the present dispensation.
Few can give a better anslysis than Sardesai who is a die hard cricket fan and knows much about the game.

In player versus BCCI conflict, the Indian cricket fans always support the player. That's it

This is Virats Arrogance that he wanted that BCCI should consult him before removing him . Why should BCCI should consult him or give him farewell? He is not retiring from cricket to get farewell.

Kohli should take retirement. Under his captaincy india was bundled out at 36. It is only due to the miracle of rahane in winning next match India could salvage its prestige
