How to Experience MARS on Earth: Analogue Astronaut Missions

In this video, I'm sharing with you one of the best ways to train for space on earth: by doing an analogue astronaut mission!

Analogue astronaut missions are a great way to train your body and mind for space travel, by simulating space conditions in a controlled environment.

This Austrian Space Forum is one of the hardest analogue missions to get into, and that's because it has similar requirements to the European Space Agency (ESA), and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) astronaut selection. In this video, I spoke with Deepa Lucy, a medic for the Austrian Space Forum. She tells me about a previous mission in Israel's Negev desert, the traits they look for in an analogue astronaut, and how they prepare and run a mission that allows a select few to experience Mars on Earth.

As mentioned, there are other analogue astronaut missions out there e.g. Lunares, Astroland, MDRS etc. But, Next week I will tell you about one which involves caving and diving!

I recently finished my master's thesis on Martian glacier forms and I would love to go on the field as you described in the video. This was super helpful.
