My Best Friend Was Jealous Of My Popularity

Colton is at the height of his high school career. He had a ton of friends, he was the captain of his football team and he had a great girlfriend. And, to top it off, he had his best friend since nursery school, Toby, right by his side.

But when Toby gets injured and is benched for the season, Colton starts to sense some jealous. Toby gives him dirty looks at their championship game, and when Colton tries to confront him about it later that night at a party, Toby randomly throws a drink in his face.

Colton has no idea why Toby is so upset with him and feels heartbroken that his best friend doesn't want to talk to him. Soon after, Colton finds out from a mutual friend that Toby had serious jealousy issues. Toby resented that Colton always seemed to be everyone's "first choice." Colton tried to be empathetic and apologized to Toby in the school cafeteria. But, instead of embracing the apology, Toby punched Colton right in the face and started at huge fight at lunch. As a result, Colton was suspended for six weeks.

When he returned back to school, Colton realized that Toby had been gossiping about him the entire time he was away. Even though he still had a core group of reliable friends, Colton felt like everyone had turned against him.

Today, Colton still really misses Toby and all the fun times they shared. He doesn't like having to say to himself, "My best friend was jealous of my popularity." Instead, he hopes that they can rekindle their friendship and let the past go.

The fact that his “ex friend” gaslights him about how “he changed” and “being left out” dude he is literally THE ONE who ignored him first because he wanted to be more popular then him. He tried to talk to his “ex friend” about it in lunch, gets punch in the face fights back while he got suspended his “friend” turn everyone against him (except his group of friends who support him) and got what he wanted. This made me mad that his ex friend wanted all the attention and popularity that his friend gotten even though it’s not his fault for it and wasn’t even leaving him out of anything.

His friend should’ve communicated his feelings first and how he felt about being “left out” instead of just rushing to unfriend you, seems like he was planning on dropping you anyways.
