This show is pretty hardcore and deals with some seriously complex and mature themes for being regarded as a show for little girls.

If it's a show for little girls, then people should realize that the little girls in everyone (regardless of whether you're a girl or not) are pretty awesome

lets not forget the entire backstory to the show is the fact that the ENTIRE WORLD was separated by racism

MLP is just like Kirby: At first glance, it seems to be just a cute franchise for little kids, but then you find out it actually has a deep, dark lore and creepy, demon-like villains

My Little Pony is an example of how things "for kids" don't have to be just a simple array of bright colors and silly characters to keep a child watching the screen. You can still show a story with diverse elements and kids will be able to understand it (as well as eventually understand even more things). Also that the most absurd concepts can be wonderful if you know how to deal with them and even older people can enjoy it. Just don't overdo it too much. And I'm glad a lot of shows have gone that way too.

I'll use it as an example if I ever become an animator and develop my own stories, including children's ones.
