Your Laser-X games just got a whole lot more exciting. Laser X tower from NSI builds on the excitement, performance and value created with the original Laser X blasters. (They're the best home laser tag sets we've found yet.) The tower adds to the fun with eight different games you can play, and for the first time, you can play solo because the tower will fire back at you. You can also play against other human opponents as well in team challenges. It's important to note that the tower requires that you have at least one of the Laser X blasters and vests in order to play. (They're sold separately, and NSI recommends the long-range blaster set for best results.)

Set up is easy. Install three double-A batteries, and you're ready to go. The games are fairly similar. Essentially you have to blast the tower before it blasts you, or before your opponent, depending on the game. You can use this inside or out, but remember you're using infrared sensors, so ambient light will affect it. (No, you're not playing with REAL lasers. It's a toy!)

Outside, try to place the tower in the shade and inside try not to put it under direct lights. When you play a game and you're blasting, you'll want to aim for the sensor on the top, which doubles as the on/off button. For best results, you'll want to position the tower so it's below your eye level. In other words, you need to be firing down at the tower for the sensor to register. On a table, just sit it flat. On the floor or the ground, you can extend the legs to get a better angle.

As with the Laser X blasters, we have been really impressed by the performance and engineering of the tower. The range is impressive, up to 100 feet or more, though lighting conditions may affect that. The unit is easy to operate, and we like that it adds new dimensions of challenge to this type of play. It's great active play for kids ages 6 and up, but we think this is also great for teens, young adults and, yes, even some grown-ups who get into this kind of play and competition.
