Honestly most of this is not just VFX industry but any job nowadays. Remember, the more perks you have the lower your salary is. Companies are not your friends.

This is honestly one of the best videos, especially for young or inexperienced artists that are trying to get into the industry. These "soft-skills" are incredibly important and often make or break your career. It can be very painful and confusing to learn this stuff on your own, so listen carefully to them.
Improving your craft is also important, that's why we all chose this path, but knowing how to navigate the corporate environment and some business knowledge will go a long way to actually making your everyday life stable and comfortable enough so you can focus on the things you love. And you don't have to sell your soul to the devil to make it, just be aware of how all this works and improve your soft-skills as much as your craft and you will be able to keep your integrity while not being suffocated by office politics.

As a developer in a different vertical, I can attest that the realities you've shared are the same for every discipline and across every industry. Good advice all around.

The job of HR is to protect the company. Never expect HR to help you the employee. Never go to HR when you have a problem with the company unless you have a very clear and cut case against a particular individual and have proof to back it up.

The hardest part about being proactive is being restricted with that, such as being told you can't work on anything else or help with anything else until the ten levels of red tape have been gone through.

In those situations, it's always best to find something to train on that can prepare you for an upcoming job or task!

I'd love a future video on post-processing 3D renders in Photoshop/After Effects etc. Clever use of masks, render elements or if you do other things in the scene to be used in post later. Not a lot of those around. Thanks :)

Here's a question/topic - What are some of the problems you usually encounter in the industry today?

You speak about some of those in the paid tutorials or promotional videos, but maybe you could make a one video entirely covering that topic.
Examples I can remember of is.. that one artist that spent a week doing a retopology for a leg(?) and made it perfect but the rest of body was not existing haha
Or how people generally go into details way too much before looking at the base of their model
Maybe something about importance of consulting with the person that is next in the line after you [sculpting -> retopo -> rigging what not..]

Talking about office politics. I got in trouble at my school when we were doing our project because I was TOO proactive. People were doing fuck all so me and my mate went "Fuck it we will do it ourselves". Next minute some of the people in my class whinged to the lecturers that their work wasn't being used. But they hadn't done any and their tasks were piling up. Pissed me off man.

This is very relevant for me, I just finished up an internship at Luma pictures. I was in the asset team which only consisted of 3 other people and we handled the assets from modelling to lookdev. Because it was a small studio I dealt with the CG supervisor directly for all my feedback, I just wanted to know what it’s like at bigger studios when receiving notes as a junior or intern? Would you still be dealing with supervisors directly?

Can you guys make a video about the specific work you've done in feature movies? (If you are not under NDAs, of course.)
