In this video I share the easiest possible method to defeat both phase 1 and 2 of the God Devouring Serpent Boss fight in elden ring.

God-Devouring Serpent is a Boss in Elden Ring. God-Devouring Serpent is a massive coiled serpent and is found in Mt. Gelmir. This is an optional boss, as players don't need to defeat it in order to advance in Elden Ring.

God-Devouring Serpent is the First Phase of Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy. Unlike most boss phases, the God-Devouring Serpent has its own health bar which must be depleted before you can challenge the Second Phase. Note that dying to his Second Phase as Rykard will require you to defeat the serpent once again.

A massive, menacing reptile that poses a remarkable threat.

This boss is optional, as only two shardbearers must be defeated to gain access to Leyndell Castle, or only Starscourge Radahn if the player uses the secret entrance in Deeproot Depths.
This is a Demi God-class boss.

GOD-DEVOURING SERPENT COMBAT INFORMATION
Defenses do not change between phases - a firebomb will do the same damage in phase 1 as in phase 2.
Deals Fire Damage and Standard Damage. May also inflict Poison.
Parriable: No
Can be poise broken, but can't be riposted afterwards.
Weak to Serpent-Hunter and somehow to Frostbite
Upon defeat, a cutscene will play and the fight against Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy will begin.

The absorption numbers are the % of your damage that gets blocked. For example if an absorption is 60. 40% of that damage by that type will go through and 60% is absorbed. Bigger number= less damage. An absorption of 100 means no damage goes through, and a resistance of -100 mean the enemy takes 2x damage from that source. 0 means damage goes pretty much as is.

Death: Immune
The resistance numbers is the buildup amount to trigger it. For example if a resistance is 100 you must deal 100 points of whatever aux buildup to trigger it. Note that these go down over time, and increase each time the effect procs.

The Best Tips for God-Devouring Serpent:

Use the Serpent-Hunter Great Spear found at the beginning of the boss' chamber.
Use the Mimic Tear Spirit Summon while equipped with the Serpent-Hunter to significantly reduce the boss' difficulty.


GENERAL STRATEGY
Be sure to pick up the Serpent-Hunter Great Spear held by a corpse at the beginning of the boss' chamber. It has a special interaction with this boss fight in which it manifests a blade of light with every attack, significantly increasing its range and allowing players to damage both phases of the boss from outside of the magma pool he stands in.

The Serpent's attacks primarily consist of lunging strikes and bites. It can also perform a special grab animation with its jaws in which it slams you down twice. However, this move only deals damage once. The Serpent will sometimes raises its head up high and then slam its chin on the ground, sending magma flying outward in a very wide arc. This attack can be dodged through or blocked to reduce damage.

If you opted to use the Serpent-Hunter, you should constantly be poking him between his attacks. Enough hits on the head will cause the Serpent to go down briefly, allowing you a much needed window of uninterrupted attacks.

Once the Serpent is defeated, Phase Two begins with Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy. See Rykard's page for relevant information.

CHEESE STRATEGY

The God-Devouring Serpent and by extension, Rykard can be made significantly more easy by summoning the Mimic Tear Spirit while equipped with the Serpent-Hunter. The Mimic copies your current equipment and this extends to the blade of light functionality of the Serpent-Hunter. The Mimic will attack of its own volition and you will still need to dodge the boss' attacks properly but having what is essentially a second player firing blades of light at him will massively cut down the amount of time and effort required to defeat the boss.

If anyone has trouble with stun locking him, go to his belly and keep basic attacking him while staying on his belly, the lava does little damage to you and he cannot attack you. I got him immediately.

The tip to upgrade the weapon was very useful thanks. As a caster I struggled a bit with the second part not having a lot of stamina but I equipped stamina boosting medallions and in physick and it worked.

Thanks for this! Finally a vid that actually gives useful info and not something basic and unhelpful like “just doge all his attacks and you’ll be fine”. I didn’t realize you could upgrade this weapon either and that’s what did it for me, idk how I could’ve beat this thing without that. I only had to upgrade to +5

There are a couple other moves you can do with that spear. If you time it right, you can get a follow up L2, where it does a very powerful uppercut. Also, for style, if you sprint forward and hit R2, you get a very powerful charge forth attack. Make sure you time that one right though, you can get into trouble very easily since it won't stagger him.

The stunlock was semi-patched so the timing is different. I just beat him by combining 2 different techniques and decided to share how I beat him. Also you will probably die a few times trying this especially during part one and the weapon the game gives you for this fight needs to be upgraded to +5.
1. You are able to jump up a wall by the fog gate to a location during phase 1st. The boss can't hit you on the top platform so abuse that shit. Thr downside to this is getting up the wall is a bit of a pain but you can practice once entering before starting the fight.
2. During phase 2 I summoned my Mimic tear as a distraction after stunning him first with 2 L2 attacks. His focus should be on the mimic so L2 him and wait for the stun to refresh and repeat.
If done right the skulls shouldn't be summoned but you still have to look out for erupting fire so be careful.

They fixed the stun lock thing. There are other ways cheese him of course (and yes I'm guilty of using a few of them). But I've been trying my best to find a unique strategy that just involves nothing but the spear. He has these flaming skulls that seek you during his second phase and I have to say that's the only thing that has ever killed me in this fight. The screen is very hectic but of course knowing the developers there is a catch to everything. I just have yet to find it. Nevertheless thank you for the guidance, friend.

I appreciate it man. I taken the advice on the mimic ashes. Def helped and beat him on my first try after watching this. Things didn’t work out on the second stage the way it did for you but my mimic kept his attention while I stomped him. That was actually my 16th attempt and after watching this I beat him right after.

Just stay in the lava and maybe equip some fire negation stuff. That helped more than anything. Fighting this thing at a distance is what got me killed many times.

The stun don´t work in phase 2. He is immune after the first stun for a while
