This second story reminds me of my sister who works in research. She's stressed because the funding has been "messed with" (her words). She is a 3x Trump voter.

This older farmer is roughly my age based on when he said he was in high school. And I've been telling people all the same things for years: That the beginning of the end was the election of Reagan, and cable TV becoming more popular so that we weren't all watching the same three or four major network newscasts around the country every night, and loss of the fairness doctrine.

But that was part of an even bigger plan that started even before Reagan, with people who were originally working with Nixon and went on to work with Trump, like Paul Manafort, and Roger Stone. And the southern strategy that Weaponized evangelicals and racists to turn middle class, working class, and even poverty class southern people away from the Democrats.

Heck, as far back as the 1940s Reagan was accusing other people of being communists during the McCarthy hearings, and by the 1960s Reagan was recording political propaganda albums (remember vinyl records?) denouncing Social Security and Medicare as "communism" -- albums that people would play on their turntables at neighborhood meetings to recruit other people away from Democrats to the Republicans, kind of an old school precursor to sharing propaganda on social media.

Of course, everything accelerated once we had the Internet, and misinformation could go directly to everyone in an instant, and not need to find media outlets for publication.

Those of us who grew up in the 60s, 70s and 80s saw this happening in real time, but didn't realize how dangerous it was until recently. And it's so disappointing seeing how many members of Gen X fell for the propaganda and became part of MAGA.

I'm even more disappointed in the actual baby boomers who came before us, who also saw all of this happening in real time, but were **completely grown people** by the time it was starting, not kids and teenagers like Gen X, and still became part of MAGA.
