We're just about coming to the end of a long winter season and, sometimes, it's not only the plants that have lain dormant. It can seem as though our love for gardening has been washed away with the rain but, rest assured, I can promise you it will return! Join me and my feathery friends for my first poly tunnel sowing of the year, as I offer some words of reassurance and tell you a thing or two about broad/ fava beans!

I can't believe this video was suggested today. I was feeling so down about gardening until I watched this! Thank you!!

Lovely video Jane.
You're absolutely right about the weather and feeling a bit lacklustre at the moment.
Hoping for some sunshine soon to raise the spirits and the seedlings

I go at everything like my life depends upon it, lol...and it's no different in the garden. It's a good reminder for me to actually slow down a bit and enjoy it. I usually feel a bit "it's all too much" at the beginning of the season, but once I get my hands and feet (yes, feet!) in the soil...I'm all in! God bless!

I’m struggling to get motivated this year, the constant rain the sodden ground, makes me think nothing will grow anyway, however I have sown some seeds, I am trying to be ready just in case because the gardener in me will get more invigorated when the weather does finally improve. So good to hear your comments and excitement for the season. Love the chickens❤️

Yes the ground is soggy, even in Oregon USA. I think it’s been raining since October. Every year the anticipation for spring seems like it takes for ever. There is something to say about rest though. I love my coffee in the morning sitting by the fire just as much as sitting in the garden in summer. I believe we have seasons for a reason. 🥰

Hi Jane🤗
I’m with you 100% 👍🏻
I absolutely love gardens and growing flowers and food, being outside with nature…. as well as getting dirty and doing jobs needing to be done. But I’m no good outdoors in winter, it’s wet grey and miserable, I get cold… that causes aches and pains 🤷‍♀️😆 The brighter, warmer days makes such a difference to my mood and if we get sun even better. I’m happy sowing some things inside and doing the planning side of things when it’s winter/ cold.
Each year I still manage to catch up with things that need to be done and enjoy the garden again. I do envy those that don’t feel the cold and don’t mind the rain pouring down on them while they work outdoors, I’m sure the fresh air does them good and it makes them happy. But no, my mojo hibernates in winter 😆
Take care

Hi Jane, great video, lifted my spirits. I can see from the comments lots of others are feeling lack lustre. It’s grey, cold and freezing in Chester this morning. I am definitely a fair weather gardener. The weather is so frustrating. I have done everything that I can do for the moment. Trouble is I’m getting older and more creaky and things take longer to do but the ‘to do list’ doesn’t get any shorter! I wanted to spread compost under the fruit bushes yesterday but it was so cold that I thought it unwise to cover the cold ground. And the cost of compost - don’t get me started! We have a trading hut on the colony and I noticed they were stocking RHS peat free compost 40 litres £8.00. Sorry I can’t afford that😢. Thanks for listening. You are doing a great job.

Hey Jane very fun video today. I have been recently listening watching the Heard it on the Grapevine recently and the number of times Danny says your name is just a hoot. I have found it a great time to listen as I gather and start to organize dinner. My wife still works so I do most of the shopping gardening and practically all the cooking. So I find I can take the iPad all around the house and get things done without being chained to my desk chair. I do find that the waning enthusiasm due to the weather esp here where we have 60+ inches of snow every winter is inevitable. I find my self watching more youtube esp the garden farming channels. Now I have been surprised how mild the winters are in the UK as so many of y'all are still in the garden doing chores with select seeding.
I set up my calendar on my iphone to repeat tasks once a year on the same dates. So once a week starting 12 weeks before the last frost I set a weekly countdown so that I can start the right seeds in the right week. Then the 13th of February I will start 2-3 seed varieties. then each day I have a few more. Being that I am somewhat disabled I do all my jobs as bite sized pieces so there is less likely for me to not get the job done. So everything has a date and it repeats every single year. So now I am seeing seedling emerging and soon will be up potting and with that all the mojo just comes back.
I do love your channel and look forward to seeing you even though I am late with this one somehow?? Peace and blessings to you and fond wishes for a successful garden year !

I love how you get shocked at Mike sowing seeds 😂 you pair should talk more 😂😂😂 lovely to see the girls ❤ I'm not a fan of broadbeans myself. I'd rather wait for runners haha. Lovely update jane. Shouldn't need to make excuses for not gardening. You do your thing. Danny ❤

Very pertinent video for the mojoless amongst us. Fascinated by the fact that as a kid I hated vegetables - definitely agree that broad beans tough and bitter reeked of death - but veggies in those days were boiled for three weeks by very tough and bitter grandparents and then fed to us😂 now we discover veggies are not actually the spawn of Satan and can taste good. Who knew? 2nd year grower - hoping to do better in 2024. 7 out of 10. See me after school. Must try harder😂❤

It is cold damp and wet today 😢 and more freezing 🥶 and snow ❄️ forecast for a week from now. Do you only have the 2 girlies now? Mike the gorilla gardener 😂. Thank goodness for down under YouTubers 😂😂 we can live vicariously through their sunshine. Have an amazing weekend, Ali 🌦️🇨🇦

My mojo is ok tbh. I do have dips but it never really lasts as you say. You know things need you so sometimes you have to drag yourself up to the allotment anyway even just for a few minutes. Having chicken is one of those things that you have to go up for. I’m not allowed chickens on my site so it’s all about the plants. Currently I’m able to fulfil my gardening needs in the garden greenhouse which helps a lot.
