Another great videö.
Thanks.
I saw the Nugent, Scorpions, Leppard show in Milwaukee. June 14, 1980. Exactly theee months after their first album was released (3/14/80). One and only time I have aeen the band.
High and Dry came out thirteen months after the show I was at.

I think On through the Night first album is just as good. Turned everyone i knew onto that first album when no one seemed to know who they were.

Huge Steve Clark fan. His melodic approach to music really captivated and encouraged me to play. This is the best album on the planet in my music world.

I saw Def Leppard open for Billy Squier in February, 1983 at The Philadelphia Spectrum. Pyromaniac was just released and they blew Billy Squier off the stage. I saw them again a few months later at City Island, Harrisburg Pennsylvania and they were the headliner. Great times! High n Dry was their best album

On Through the Night and High n’ Dry are tied in the pole position for me. Almost every track on both feels like an A side. Pyromania is a close second. I agree with your opinion of them live, I saw the Pyromania tour as a kid and along with their slightly clinical stage presence the music didn’t have the same punch, I think it inadvertently revealed how much overdubbing was going on in the studio. I didn’t realize those technicalities then but I knew something felt missing. All that being said, pound for pound their first three are a holy trinity of 80’s Hard Rock and are untouchable once the needle drops.

It is a fine album. Definitely one of the best from the era

I get the sense that Pete Willis and Steve Clark were the ones generating the riffs, so after each one dropped out the band changed..

Willis played more guitar on Pyromania than Collen did. The album was almost finished when Collen was brought in to finish a few solos that Willis was unable to do. I've often wondered why Clark didn't just do those solos. What shape was HE in at the time?

Cool vid. The first 3 records are their best. I got on board with Pyromania in 83 but I’ve probably listened to High n Dry the most over the years. I believe the best guitar combo for songwriting was Pete and Steve (RIP).

Interesting take, especially the comments from Joe in the studio recording High and Dry, from what I can remember Pete seemed quite happy in the studio recording that. Steve I should imagine not so much.
Your comments about them not being so great touring on the Pyromania tour also interest me because I only saw them on the earlier tours, I saw them also when they first started, when Glad I'm Alive was their opening song and Thin Lizzy's Emerald was in the setlist, really early. I wish they had stayed heavier for the exact reason of being a blow your head off type of top tier rock band.
Pete was a rocker, he was a roller too babe 😉
