According to the latest Trustees Report from the Social Security Administration in 2021, the total amount of money borrowed from the Social Security Trust Fund is approximately $2.9 trillion as of the end of 2020. It's important to note that the borrowed funds are backed by Treasury bonds, which earn interest, and the government has always repaid its debt to the Trust Fund with interest.
