If I get Social Security disability benefits, will I get Medicaid?

There are 2 types of social security disability. One is called SSDI, social security disability, and the other is called SSI, which is commonly called "welfare." If you qualify under the disability definition for SSD because you've paid into the system and because you're disabled, you will get Medicare 25 months after the date that you became disabled, so if you became disabled January of 2016, you'll be entitled to Medicare February of 2018, unless you've turned 65 in the interim. If you've turned 65, you get it immediately.


Under SSI, if you're picked up for SSI, and SSI is available for people who haven't paid into the system sufficiently, and if you're disabled, then you get Medicaid. Many doctors don't accept Medicaid, unfortunately, because the reimbursement rate is very low. However, at the very least, you can see doctors who accept Medicaid, and you can get treatment for your disability.
