As everyone is saying, the machine gun failed, but they threw a grenade and the shrapnel injured Heydrich and he died later in a hospital due to the injuries. They were pursued and hid in a church where they tried to resist the nazi soldiers to their last bullets. To this day there are still bullet holes on the church since the nazis shot a machine gun from a window from a building across the street, I've been to the church. I believe they then commited suicide by poisoning themselves with cyanide so the nazis couldn't get information out of them. I respect the heroic acts of the resistance movements in the nazi occupied countries. They all did this for a better future for everyone, even though they knew they were risking their own lives every single day. Their sacrifices were not in vain. I salute them with utmost respect

I recommend you guys watch "Anthropoid" (2016). Another gem for Cillian Murphy and the rest of the cast. One of the most underrated war movies out there

Correction:
1. Kubis' STEN was jammed, so they threw a grenade and that wounded Heydrich, not the SMG
2. Karel Curda, a collaborator gave the location of Kubis and Gabcik to the Gestapo. They hid in the st. cyril and methodius cathedral in Prague. The SS raid at the cathedral, and after a gunfight, Kubis and Gabcik commited suicide

The main reason Heydrich was assassinated was the fact that he had the Czechs working well producing military goods for the Germans and earning good money. The locals were not happy he died!!

Moral of the story: It's not how hard you trained for but it's how RELIABLE weapons are for the mission.

Actually Heydrich lived several days after the attempt, he later died from infection from the fibers of the seats in his car.

He died from septicaemia, that set in as a result from what was splintered by a grenade. They say it could also been from the horses hair, that formed the cushioning of the seats in the rolls royce, that were shattered and imbedded into his wounds also. He came to, was coherent, eating etc, but the blood infection set it badly. Six days later, it took his life. Hitler expressed his disapproval of any of his high ranking nazi heiracy being chauffered or travelling in and open vehicle. Reinhardt assumed no one dared to take him out, as he ran chez with such ferociousness that people were too fearful of the reprisals. Goes to show that people will risk everything to rise up against pure evil.

Heydrich did not die from his wounds, but from infection caused by the horse hair from the upholstery that was forced into his wounds by the grenade.

Idk if anyone mentioned it but there is a cool urban legend about Heydrich. It is said that when he arrived in occupied Czechoslovakia he visited the Karlštejn castle near Prague. In this castle there are Czech Crown Jewels, which include the Saint Vitus crown.
According to the legend, anyone who places this ancient crown upon their head and isn’t worthy to rule over Czech people shall die within a year. Some people who were there when Heydrich was brought before these jewels said that he allegedly put the crown briefly on his head.
He supposedly did this almost exactly a year before his assassination.
There are no proofs of it actually happening, however it is a cool fun facf.

Interesting that the video makes no mention of the grenade thrown by one of the two patriots and that Heydrich died of his wounds days later in June. Perhaps the author would care to explain why Heydrich's death due to the attack was not in the video, front and center?
