Larry, I'm glad you finally got to make it to a reunion to talk with your squad leader after ~50 years. Military reunions help veterans talk to those that went through what you did. Others that never served don't (can't) understand what you went through. Talking to your veteran buddies helps you unload some of the stuff you have tried to lock up inside you all these years. I have been to several of our USS Ponchatoula shipmates reunions since 2000. We do them every other year, and we try to move them around the country to try to be fair to everyone in the shipmates association. It's a healing process at every reunion I go to. I'm glad you were able to connect with your squad leader. Try to stay in touch with your veteran buddies. Best of luck to you Larry.
