US-Oppositionsführerin Nancy Pelosi hat auf aufsehenerregende Weise ihren Unmut über die Rede von Präsident Donald Trump zur Lage der Nation kundgetan: Die Vorsitzende des Repräsentantenhauses zerriss am Dienstagabend (Ortszeit) unmittelbar nach Trumps Ansprache im Kongress eine Kopie des Redetextes.

Pelosi saß hinter Trump, als dieser seine Ansprache hielt, und hatte eine Kopie des Textes vor sich. Unmittelbar nach der Rede stand sie auf und zerriss demonstrativ ihre Kopie des Redetextes. Auf die Frage eines Reporters, warum sie das getan habe, sagte sie kurz darauf: „Weil es angesichts der Alternativen die höfliche Variante war.“

A bitter feud between U.S. President Donald Trump and top Democrat Nancy Pelosi boiled over at his State of the Union speech on Tuesday (February 4), with Trump snubbing her outstretched hand and Pelosi ripping apart a copy of his remarks behind his back.

Trump avoided the subject of his impeachment drama in an 80-minute speech, but the scars from the battle were evident with fellow Republicans giving him standing ovations while rival Democrats for the most part remained seated.

The Republican-led Senate was expected to acquit him on Wednesday of charges he abused his powers and obstructed Congress.
