Alkaline phosphatase is an enzyme produced by the liver and by the bone. In order to find out the best investigation would be a bone specific alkaline phosphatase. There are conditions which cause elevation of alkaline phosphatase especially bone specific alkaline phosphatase such as Paget’s disease in which the bone specific alkaline phosphatase. Even if a single bone is involved, there is elevation of alkaline phosphatase. But it is not a mild increase, but a marked increase. So your 90 IU per ml is because of bone alkaline phosphatase increase secondary to Vitamin D deficiency. So you may see that the calcium, phosphorus, these minerals which are from the bone, those are normal, but alkaline phosphatase maybe at times elevated. Vitamin D deficiency is a very common reason for elevated alkaline phosphatase. If gamma GT or bilirubin is elevated, then liver disease could be the cause of the alkaline phosphatase elevation.

Good information doctor. My ALP is high but all other liver enzymes are within normal range including Bilirubin. Vit D reading is 32. Any cause for concern? I’m 57 years old. Your thoughts will be helpful doctor

You are giving good info but going a little too fast. I understood ALP can be elevated as a result of vitsmin D deficiency. But my vitsmin D is high-all the way to the top. I took a lot of vitamin D and K2 to help my body...my calcium als shows a bit hight according to normal range but close to top.
What could my ALP mean please?

Sir, i have done a normal blood test as I'm having pain in my body and everything is normal there but my ALP level is 717 where the normal range is given as 42-98
And also vit D3 is also very very low
What should i do now is there anything to worry about

Normal range is 50-130 U/L
Is this beacuse of creatine and whey protein..beacuse i have never used gears..
Im consuming both for 2 yrs continuosly
