Inkscape 1.0 | How to Split / Cut Text

Inkscape is free and open source vector graphic design & editing software!

To to cut / split / divide text in Inkscape 1.0, the text must first be converted into a path. After doing this, the text can no longer be added to or changed.

Here are the steps:

1. Create some text, and make sure it is selected.
2. Path -- Object to Path
3. Object -- Ungroup
4. Path -- Union
5. Draw a path using the Bezier Tool, across the part of the text to be cut.
6. Make a duplicate copy of the cut path (ctrl+d)
7. Make a duplicate copy of the text (ctrl+d)
8. Select 1 cut path a 1 text (shift+left click each)
9. Use Path -- Difference OR Path -- Intersection depending on what side of the text you want to keep. Repeat this step to keep both sides. This operation will get rid of both selected paths, and replace it with a single path of either the parts where they intersect/overlap or the part where they do not.

thanks, in this video i can see with the key and the cliks what are you doing and when you put the screen in shadow but only in light the thing you want to show is realy good (try to keep this way to show in your other tutorials)

free tip :) playback speed = shift+', ' or shift+' . ' much much quicker. ( <, > keys ) . next free tip. space=pause.then ', ' or ' . ' is frame by frame :)

Great explanation! Thanks. You just forgot to mention to lower the duplicated text path (I just noticed it until I slowed down the video, as you commented). I suppose this minor step is only needed to have all object easy to follow your steps. Anyway, it is really very important to have this skill, and THANK for this clear explanation!
