I think that something more abstract/simple would be best for this space seeing as you’ll have barstools there most/all the time.
The Kiss by Gustav Klimt has a really lovely rectangular/geometric pattern on the left figure. Maybe a series of overlapping shapes like that would allow for the colors you enjoy whilst letting the wood show through.
The chairs would obstruct some of it but not enough to distort the full image like a full illustrative mural would be. It would also somewhat match the color blocking of the cabinets making the island feel cohesive.
Hope this helps 😊

I love maps as art (honestly like one third of the artworks in my apartment are just maps) and there's this London store called Future Mapping Company and they do very graphic maps in very striking color combinations that I think would work very well with your vibe, I think that would be a great inspiration if you haven"t already heard of them.

Based on your mural description, I’d like to suggest artists like Yayoi Kusama, Kandinsky, Paul Klee or Eli Lissitzky for inspiration. I think it will work well with the Bauhaus feel of the cabinets

As others mentioned, Bauhaus inspired art would look amazing here. Something very kinetic, with a mix of hard geometric and organic shapes and lines. It would look great with that squiggly light fixtures.

A mural of your hometown... or your city's skyline..

I think the black background like the floral design would be really awesome with your cabinets! I’d take it a step further and paint giant pop art bubbles in colors that match your colorful cabinets would really tie it together.

If you are leaning industrial for the design maybe try a graffiti type design? Leave wood peaking through just like you would brick on a building! You could even incorporate a steampunk vibe and add gears! Just a thought🙂

You could maybe do street maps lines across the wood possibly of somewhere special to you to make it a little bit more special? i’m sure whatever idea you land on will look fabulous!

The cabinets are giving huge "bauhaus" vibes. This might be a lil wild but I think taking inspiration from wassily kandinsky's synesthesia work it would be dope! This is so incrediblely random but that was the first thing I thought of 😅😂❤ I also loveeee the floral idea as well

not sure if you'd be into a tree ring type design but i think it's be a great subject choice! black lines for the tree rings with the negative space showing through could be really cool!

Not necessarily a map, but black line graphics of places that are meaningful to you, like the place you met your s.o., or a childhood home, with pops of color coloring in some areas of each picture that coordinates with your cabinets

i think it would look awesome if you'd paint abstract black lines and the fill the polygons they created with the same colors you've already used in your kitchen.
hope this helps❤

You might have already started this project, but i was thinking a puzzle design :)

Maybe puzzle pieces with different patterns and colors on every piece.

The wood can be the background if you make the puzzle pieces scattered, like an unfinished puzzle.

Or in a more organized puzzle design, some puzzle pieces can be left out of the puzzle, making the wood visible in the missing pieces.

Well, to match those square patterns on the wall, you could do your own version of the painting “Composition with Red, Blue and Yellow” by Piet Mondrian, except you could make the colors be whatever you want like green and orange to match the wall. Then you could have the white space be the wood poking through, and you’d have heavy black lines! You could use any colors really. Plus, you could put some graffiti on top like that one example picture if you like. I think it would just fit well because you could easily customize it to your desires!

I think a distressed Mural of art like you love but giving the feeling of an abandoned space that has ages and weathered slowly and gracefully.

I really think an asymmetrical design like those flowers would be good (with most of it on the right.)

I think it would be cool to maybe do the line art map of somewhere that means a lot to you (the town where you grew up, the place where you realized you wanted to pursue interior design, the place where you had your first major project) something like that! And if you can’t decide on one place, you could always do overlapping maps in different colors because that would also look sick!

Something sentimental. The kitchen is the heart of the home, so I’m thinking it should be something that reflects you or maybe even the process of building this specific home

Id say finish the rest of the room first then come back to this area alot can change and you may just decide on the exact design once it's all put together. As a project progresses adjustments are made along the way.
Hope this helps

Is it possible to get sample size pieces of wood and try smaller versions of all the designs? With the colour wood you plan on using? Or take a picture of the area the mural is going and draw on top of it? That’s what I do! I take a picture of my print and digital add what im debating adding
