Fan Mail Unboxing Video No. 21

A word of caution!! - This is the longest unboxing video that I have uploaded so far! The fact is that I am getting more packages than normal and therefore I have had to 'ramp up' the length of the unboxings in the hope that I can give credit to all of my contributors now and also in to the future. If you are not into the unboxings then don't watch. If you are into the unboxings then I hope that you watch them through to the end as there is so much to see in these longer videos which would be missed if you are tempted to skip through! - I must say thanks to all of you that support my channel and I hope that you will stick around for the foreseeable future!

I died laughing when you snorted those spices. I use it all the time but not for snorting

Every unboxing has Matchbox models that I never knew existed. I am always impressed by the wonderful things that are sent to you by such generous people. Thanks for sharing this.

Marty I really got a good laugh when you inhaled the Cajun seasoning, that's a no no for someone who doesn't know what it is, we use Tony's seasonings for all types of food and yes it is spicy. Also I thought that Farrel is from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. LA stands for Louisiana not Los Angeles. You may want to re-pin it. Enjoy your videos as usual. Your unboxing videos are great. Cajun is slang for Acadians who were removed from Nova Scotia and some settled in south Louisiana around the 1700's

Greetings from Moscow.
One Russian model is Moskvích 427. Moskvich stands for “Muscovite”. The official name of the factory was first MZMA, for Moscow Factory of Small-Litreage Cars, and then AZLK — Automobile Factory named after Lenin Komsomol (Youth Communist Union). It went completely defunct in the early 2000s, now there is one line that assembles Renault cars and most other territory is rented out to businesses for warehouses, car services and such; as well there is a so called “innovation cluster”.

This toy model is from the 1980s and was not quite common — as was not its real-life prototype. Originally it was Moskvich 412, a small sedan with 1.1, then 1.2, 1.3 and up to 1.5 liter engines. 427 is a “combi” version, the type of a car that is better known as “hatchback”. Mostly both models were manufactured in Izhévsk — the city famous for Kalashnikov assault gun. Originally the car itself was developed in the 1960s and Izh-412 model (as well as 427 Izh-Combi) used a reverse-engineered copy of a 1953 BMW engine. Both were in production well into the 1990s, later replaced by something that was a mix of 1980s and 1990s design (but 1970s functionality in Western or Japanese categories) and now Izhevsk factory belongs to AvtoVAZ (the manufacturer of Lada) where the cheaper and ready for phasing out models are assembled.

We really did not have Matchbox or its equivalents — only some very few lucky kids whose parents worked in the West as diplomats or visited Western countries and had extra money for that kind of stuff to bring home. Other toy cars were mostly crude things like larger Corgi or even more primitive, either tin or plastic, and they rarely demonstrated good craftsmanship... including sharp edges. So toy model cars like these two were the most prized.

They actually were not meant as toys to play with and roll around — rather as collectibles for display, and some are still manufactured (both in China and Russia). They were made of metal and plastic (plastic only in place of glass and rubber, as well as engines were sometimes of chrome-painted plastic), strictly to 1:43 scale and in accordance with original factory blueprints. The craftsmanship was (and is, for this particular scale) very fine with attention to detail ranging from good to great. The models with opening doors, trunks and bonnets were, of course, valued higher among boys — and they were more expensive. The most desirable was, of course, the ZIL limo — it had everything opening and even folding seats inside, but cost something like 100 Australian dollars in today's money.
On this specific model the front wheels are absolutely not original, they are from either Hot Wheels or a Superfast. Someone tried to make it over and failed. Also trunk door is missing.

The second Russian model is also from the 1980s and is not a taxi. It's Lada 2101Traffic Police (it says MILITIA on sides — that's how Soviet and Russian police was called between 1918 and 2011, and GAI — Traffic Police — on the trunk; on doors it has the USSR coat of arms, pretty much like the original, the painting scheme is from the early 1980s). Quite popular and more or less readily available. I had a similar one but civilian and in green color, with opening bonnet and trunk. This one lost the blue light (blinker) during its life — and my guess is that it is more or less compatible with Matchbox, but it had a shape of a cut cone and not a half-a-sphere-on-cylinder. The bonnet on this model actually has more complex hinges than the real one. The red “ruby” thing is a windshield washing liquid tank, or maybe a braking liquid (it's accurate and to scale so to know it for sure I need to look at the real car manual). Lada 2101 was a licensed copy of FIAT 124 — Italians sold factories to the USSR, Poland and Turkey in the late 1960s, and it actually was the first “people's car” in the USSR — the one that a regular person could buy given some effort.

Both Soviet models have their original paint job that was accurate to reality and, contrary to real cars, quite durable. I have a suspicion that the actual paint was the same as on original cars but more diluted with thinners.

Now I'm sure I have to send you some of those and some more stuff some time in the future ;)

Your videos prove that it is a small world. Who would have guessed that matchbox cars were loved by so many people around the globe.

26:30 you have the previously opened one that you could make a silicone mold out of and recast the part in Resin or Pot Metal.

Your fans are incredible! Wish I still had all of the Matchbook cars that I had as a kid back in the 1960s. I loved them!

Must be the funniest You Tube videos I've ever watched. Especially inhaling the Cajun seasoning. Brilliant and then Julie doing the same. Wonderful.
