Minoru is so damn genius. The plans he makes are unstoppable. Even the shinigami king had to cheat by changing the rules. The only Minoru's mistake was that he told ryuk that whatever happened after Minoru forgot his memory of the death note, ryuk could not come to him anymore. So Ryuk couldn't tell Minoru about the new rules.

But It would have been a waste anyway because the book had already been sold to Trump. So Minoru's death will absolutely happen and it's because of the shinigami king. What I can conclude is that Minoru is so genius that the shinigami king had to intervene.

But i think if it was light, he'll think of all the possibilities could happen if he sells death note. And light wouldn't take that risk.
