Показать описание
A balanced and healthy diet is a vital part of a healthy and active lifestyle. The phrase “You are what you eat” is ever so true. This section will show you what it takes to maintain a healthy and balanced diet.
Health Essential
In order to maintain a healthy lifestyle it is essential to eat a balanced and nutritious diet, as not balancing your diet correctly may result in damage to the body. This balance will be different for each person, as everyone has different dietary needs – for example, those who exercise a lot need high-energy foods. In any case though, it is important not to eat too many fatty foods; these can cause high blood pressure, increasing your risk of heart disease and strokes.
Macro and Micro Nutrients
Macro nutrients are the most important nutrients the body requires and in the largest quantity. Examples of macro nutrients include proteins, carbohydrates and fats. It is important to remember there are good and bad types of fats that the body needs in varying quantities – we will go through this in a moment.
Micro nutrients such as vitamins and minerals are needed in much smaller quantities. On top of these nutrients the body also needs a lot of water and dietary fibre in order to be healthy. The best way to make sure you’re taking in all the nutrients your body needs to operate at its optimum levels is to eat a good varied diet including plenty of fruit and vegetables.
