I have Lubuntu 18.04 installed on an Acer Aspire One ZG5 with only 512Mb of Ram and a 32 bit Intel Atom CPU.
I installed Midori instead of Firefox.
It's not fast, by any means, slow but sure describes it best.
Lubuntu is one way of getting another few years out of an otherwise obsolete older laptop or netbook.
I'm grateful.

Lubuntu being fast is no surprise, the surprise is Kubuntu that has improved a lot. Congratulations on the comparative video!

They are not really different distros, they are just different combinations of packages installed. It’s easy enough to turn one into another just by logging out and logging in again under a different GUI. Not even a reboot is necessary.

Ubuntu and its flavors are faster on SSDs but Lubuntu remains the fastest one

Mate is the disappointment. Anyway I still prefer the original one: Ubuntu

I tried lots of linux, peppermint, lite, puppy, debian, ubuntu, lubuntu, and by far my faborite distro is Lubuntu 18.04lts. I have it running on Turion and intel core duo machines with 2 and 3GB of ram, and its damn fast, way faster than a 2018 celeron or i3 with win 10. No problem surfing or watching videos on youtube and netflix

Xfce is the best DE for me. Xfce cons just in thunar file filter. It's still suck. Now pcmanfm-qt much better than thunar.
