I want to dispel the myth that “Aim-54s are meant for killing bombers”

yes AND no, the aim-54 was built to kill EVERYTHING. While bombers are what was ORIGINALLY in mind the Aim-54 was able to shoot down cruise missiles as well. Even the Aim-54A was tested in a full loadout and it hit 5 of 6 drones meant to be cruise missiles as if it was defending a ship.

The Aim-54 is a EVERYTHING killer, it’s purpose was to so heavily outrange the enemy aircraft that they wouldn’t even consider they are in danger and would just obliterate them because the missile comes in top down from its loft trajectory and unless the enemy pilots happened to look up and see contrails they wouldn’t even know they were in danger until the last second and by then it’s too late for them.

The myth of the “Designed to Hunt Bombers” comes from the fact it uses a huge charge and isn’t able to maneuver with something that sees it coming.

In reality there is no “red missile Diamond” and the AIM-54 was entirely capable of killing someone who never had a chance to know it was coming. It never saw combat with the US and mostly was used by Iran who later made their own version of the missile after they used all their Aim-54s up. They swear by it.

It appears that the seeker present on the Aim-54C we have right now is a copy-paste of the Aim-54A with less inertial drift. The missile also has the same Mk.47 motor. If the missile was given the Mk.60 motor and had its seeker properly modeled, we could expect them to perform WAY better in BVR encounters. The seeker itself should be able to see targets as far out as 32 miles / 51 kilometers (Source: Ward Carrol - Former F-14 RIO). We could also expect the missile to track better in rear aspect and against chaff, though the notch window should still be about the same.

Feel the F-14 has allot of room to grow as far as weapons or systems are concerned. Improved Aim-54C's, Aim-7MH's, and Aim-9M's were all carried by it. Some of those could also be retroactively added to a later model of the F-14A. The Aim-54C's and the Aim-9M's come to mind. Also, the ability to change the PRF mode of the radar would be an absolute game changer. The cat still has some claws left to sharpen

The F15 kinda needs an East counterpart to be put in game. At least that's my thought on Gaijin's reason for not adding it. Either way, who knows if they started working on it or not.

I absolutely agree on an F-15A idea. It could be added since the f16 and mig29 were introduced, and perfectly fit the meta. And adding the F-15A would solve the Israeli bwr problem.
