*** WATCH *** SPARKS FLY OVER “MIGRANT” CRISIS AT YARMOUTH TOWN MEET.

September 13, 2023 |Robert Bastille

SOUTH YARMOUTH, Massachusetts – It was an evening of lively and colorful conversation about the “migrant” crisis at the Yarmouth Town Board of Selectmen Meeting last evening. The room was packed with concerned citizens. Members of the Board of Selectmen also expressed concern and denied prior knowledge regarding the Haitian “migrants” that arrived via luxury bus at the Harborside Suits in South Yarmouth on Sunday evening. Members of the board also expressed frustration over a perceived lack of communication from the Governor Healey administration. Emotions were high. The colorful sparks flew. Concerns over the Cape’s “migrant” crisis remain, to say the least.

The following HN Video contains highlights from last evening’s memorable meeting…

Good job Robert. If you hadn''t been there to document their arrival. It would have gone under the rug.

I can't believe they actually threw that woman out and had the police escort her! That is unbelievable!! All she wanted was her question answered!! What happened to free speech!! Who do these Town select people think they are!! According to them, they have no power to step in and do anything about this migrant situation - so what good are they? I hope the people of Yarmouth now see where their representatives stand!
I was a resident of W. Yarmouth for many years. It was a great place, bustling with lots to do and great places to go. It saddens me to drive along RT 28 and see what it is becoming. You wont see any migrants bused to Osterville or Chatham. No way would that be tolerated! They removed them off the Vineyard in record time, didn't they. The Cape is small and seasonal. Many businesses have already closed for the season and many more will be closing in the next couple of months. There won't be jobs for these people even if they wanted to work. But again, why should they when they are getting more money per month, per person, than many of us get from social security. This is costing the taxpayers and we should have a right to say how we want our towns run. I understand our Governor has just asked for another $750M in funding because the state is running out of money to house and feed all these migrants and give them free MA Health. According to the news, it's at a cost of $45M a month - probably more by now. Think about that for a moment and think about our veterans who need housing & healthcare who aren't getting it because programs were cut. It's infuriating.
A better solution might have been to take them to urban areas where there are more people from their native countries that speak their language and where businesses are open year round. The Cape is already over populated - look at traffic on RT 28 and RT 6. Many areas are looking more and more run down and forcing long time residents to leave.
Crime is also a concern. The public doesn't hear about every crime committed on this island and I wouldn't be at all surprised if the number of crimes is up significantly. How many people do you know who say they won't go into Hyannis anymore or to the Mall? The beautiful Cape Cod we used to know is rapidly on it's way out, and like that one woman said, we're turning into a 3rd world country. I believe she's right. Do we know exactly how many are being housed over at Camp Edwards? I've personally seen the white buses come and go from there. I don't see any of these people leaving unless they decide to do so themselves. They're here to stay. So get used to it because it doesn't sound as thought those selectmen are going to anything to help the residents that might go against the grain. 😔

I’m an Australian and I know very little about American politics so I have a question. Can the voters in an electorate ( State and Federal levels) call a town meeting and demand the presence of their elected representatives at a town meeting and answer questions? I also mean that a video or telephone conferencing would not be satisfactory.

They are YOUR elected representatives and don’t they, at the end of the day, answer to you for their jobs?

Forgive my naivety but I’m curious about how Americans deal with their elected representatives. Here in Australia we get a say on what our elected representatives are doing only every three or four years when we have to vote so ours is definitely not a great way of doing things.

As a Native Cape Codder for over 55 years, This Truly Saddens me... The Lack of transparency from the State, and the Lack of Respect and Concern for Public Safety for the Local residents is appalling.. I saw the handwriting on the wall years ago, and Moved out of State...
Make no mistake that the Middle Class is under attack...
The Fact that the Lady gets removed by the Police, tells me that we are on our own...
She asked at the the podium and also at her seat where the selectman stood. The Selectman could have answered it, or said he wasn't going to at this time...
As an Elected official he had an obligation to answer, imo
This is coming to small towns across the country,
With so many disregards.
We Must have a Closed border..
The Cape will continue to be in my prayers
Thanks to HN, for sharing..

One reason that incomplete information is coming from the state is that refugee settlement in MA is handled mostly by non-profits who actually sponsor those applying for asylum and residency. That’s another layer of needed communication.

It all flows from the top. Elect a clown get a circus. I hope this serves as a lesson for those who keep voting in these liberal dems.

Michael Stone’s question about the relationship between the state and hotel/motel owners is an important one. During the Reagan era when more punitive measures were put in effect against poor people in public housing, evictees from Boston were relocated to the Cape and housed in motels off-season. This issue of using motels started over 30 years ago and has been profitable for some commercial real estate owners.

Working with Afghan refugees living on Cape, I’ve learned that many refugees move to other areas in order to be reunited with extended family.

Wow....I believe Yarmouth residents should have their questions answered, not having to be told to "sit down" and have YPD come at you...Someone needs to answer these valid questions!!! Governor Maura, WHAT is going on?😳
