VENOM: THE LAST DANCE Movie Review (2024)

Let’s face it - the Venom series has never exactly been a critical darling. Done on a relatively modest scale for Sony’s Spider-verse and shackled by a PG-13 rating, this Tom Hardy-led franchise has, surprisingly enough, printed money for its home studio. While they’ve never risen above modest, turn-your-brain-off B-movie fare, they’ve been much better than other Spider-verse offerings like Madame Web and Morbius. With this billed as The Last Dance for the character at Sony, does this short-lived franchise end on a high?

PLOT: Eddie Brock and Venom must make a devastating decision as they're pursued by a mysterious military man.
Release date: October 24, 2024 (USA)
Director: Kelly Marcel

Saw the movie today with my older sister!

As for the movie as a whole: this was quite the way to wrap up the trilogy perhaps not being as good as the previous entries but still entertaining
I definitely appreciated two moments were it got pretty deep, much needed levity given everything both these characters have been through
Tom Hardy is still very entertaining to watch next to the action scenes and the symbiotes The climax is very explosive and I did appreciate Chiewetel Ejiofor and Juno Temple's supporting roles, they didn’t come off as stereotypical authority figures
It's a shame the main villain Knull is in the background for a lot of this but he looks very scary and being voiced by Andy Serkis
Much of this does hearken to those comics mythology
Rhys Ifans makes a funny appearance as a hippie, too
This final entry could’ve ended on a stronger note but it ends more on a whimper
The mid credits scene is better than the after credits scene so who knows how much more of this SONY universe can be explored
Anyone expecting a 100% accurate depiction of the character from the source material you will be disappointed waiting for an actual Spider-Man connection
For the fans of this particular take on the character it provides a serviceable conclusion

I guess I’m one of the few, I enjoyed them all like I enjoyed all the guardians and Antman movies apart from destroying the opportunity of modok and making his daughter the most ungrateful arrogant women on the planet
